6 UPCOMING QUALCOMM PROCESSORS
leaked list of upcoming Qualcomm chipsets surfaced on the internet, showing all LTE-capable chipsets.
The Snapdragon 616 is an octacore chipset utilizing Cortex A53 cores, clocked at 1.8GHz to 2.2GHz. The accompanying GPU is the Adreno 408.
The chipset falls under the 6th equipment category for LTE support.
The Snapdragon 620 is a quad core chipset clocked at 2.0GHz – 2.5GHz, and is said to be based on Qualcomm’s Taipan architecture. The GPU
included is an Adreno 418 and the chipset is equipped with LPDDR3 933 RAM, capable of CAT10 LTE data transfer speeds.
Snapdragon 625 and 629 are both octa cores. These models have LPDDR4 for the RAM. They are similar to the 620 in terms of GPU and LTE equipment category, CAT 10.
The Snapdragon 815 is an octacore chipset which adapts a Big.Little architecture. It has the Adreno 450 GPU in tow. The RAM and LTE specs are the same with the 625 and 629 models.
…Taipan cores, a next gen series
of custom cores which is depicted
to succeed the Krait architecture
Lastly, the Snapdragon 820 is also an octacore 64-bit chipset with an Adreno 530 GPU, LPDDR4 RAM and CAT10 LTE speeds. It is reported that
the chipset will also be utilizing Taipan cores, a next gen series of custom cores which is depicted to succeed the Krait architecture. Qualcomm will
use Samsung/GF’s 14nm FinFET process for the 820.
The performance of the GPUs are truly interesting points in these chipsets. A timeline for the release of these chipsets has yet to be established.
